COLUMBUS, Ohio � The Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League announced that they have re-signed former Mississippi Sea Wolves defenseman Francois Beauchemin to a two-year contract.

Selected in the third round (75th overall) by Montreal in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-0 and 214-pound Beauchemin was acquired by Columbus off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens on September 14, 2004.

The 25-year-old Beauchemin played for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League in 2004-05 and led the team with a plus/minus rating of +17 while leading the team�s defensemen with 30 points (3g-27a), his second-consecutive 30-point season in the AHL.

He scored four points (1g-3a) in seven games with Mississippi in 2001-02 while also playing in the AHL for Quebec where he scored 19 points (8g-11a) in 56 regular season games and had one assist in three playoff games.

Beauchemin became the sixth former Mississippi player of eight to advance to the NHL, making his debut with Montreal on February 27, 2003 against Minnesota.

The Sea Wolves open their 10th Anniversary season on October 22 at Pensacola.

Mississippi drops the puck on its home opener on October 28 against Texas at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
