Filion Signs With Sea Wolves
BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and head coach Bob Woods announced today that the team has signed center Olivier Filion (OH-lih-vee-ay FIHL-yahwn).

Filion, 22, was acquired on June 4 from Alaska completing the trade that saw goaltender Matt Underhill go to the Aces on March 22. The 5-foot-11 and 195-pound Filion registered eight goals, 20 assists and 51 penalty minutes in 65 regular season games with the Aces last season. In the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs, Filion tallied three goals, seven assists and 20 penalty minutes in 15 contests. A native of Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, Filion netted the overtime game-winner with Alaska on May 8 at Trenton in Game 4 of the National Conference Finals.

In 2003-04, Filion a
ppeared in 66 regular season games with the Richmond RiverDogs of the United Hockey League in his rookie season of professional hockey notching eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points, while accumulating 51 penalty minutes in 65 games. Filion played four years of junior from 1999-2003 with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League capped off with 104 points in back-to-back campaigns.

�I am very happy to sign with Mississippi,� said Filion. �I have heard positive things about the team and the area. Other players tell me that the Sea Wolves have good coaches and it is a nice place to play. I am really looking forward to coming to Mississippi and can�t wait to get started.�

�Olivier is a good player that works hard at both ends of the rink,� said Woods. �He gained some valuable experience during the playoffs last season with the Aces and he was one of their more consistent players. We look for him to continue that trend with us this season.�

Filion becomes the fourth player to sign with the 2005-06 Sea Wolves joining left wing Anthony Battaglia, right wing Jay Legault and defenseman Chris Cava.

Mississippi opens its 10th Anniversary Season on the road at Pensacola on October 22 before welcoming Texas for the home opener on October 28 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
