BILOXI, Miss. Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and head coach Bob Woods announced today that the team has re-signed veteran right wing Jay Legault (leh-GOH) to a one-year contract.
Legault, 26, enters his sixth professional season and second year with Mississippi. The 6-foot-4 and 220-pound Legault notched career highs in 61 regular season games with the Sea Wolves last season in goals (19), assists (41), points (60) and multiple-point games (17). In four postseason contests, Legault netted the overtime game-winning goal on April 15 against Gwinnett in Game 2 of American Conference Quarterfinals and had an assist during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Legault collected a career-high 11-game point streak (6g-12a) from December 4-31 and scored a hat trick on February 22 against Columbia. Selected by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the third round, 72nd overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Legault also appeared in two games during 2004-05 with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Things clicked well for me with the Sea Wolves last season, said Legault. Its a great situation. I enjoy playing for the coaching staff and the fans are great too. I look forward to helping lead Mississippi in its 10th Anniversary season.
Jay showed the kind of leadership that were looking for, said Woods. He had a good offensive year and was a clutch performer. Were excited to have Legault back to take care of some unfinished business.
Joining left wing Anthony Battaglia, Legault becomes the second player to sign with Mississippi for 2005-06 and the first with veteran (260 regular season professional hockey games played as of the start of the upcoming 2005-06 season). Each ECHL team is allowed a maximum of four veterans on the active roster.
