Mississippi "Tags" First Player Signing For 2005-06

BILOXI, Miss. Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and head coach Bob Woods announced today that the team has re-signed left wing Anthony Battaglia (bah-TAG-lee-ah).

Battaglia, 25, becomes the first player to sign with Mississippi for the 2005-06 season. A native of Chicago, Battaglia was n
amed Mississippis Offensive Player of the Year last season after leading the Sea Wolves with 27 goals and three shorthand tallies during the regular season. After attending the 2004 American Hockey League training camp of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the 6-foot and 195-pound Battaglia registered career highs in goals (27), shorthand goals (3), assists (32), points (59), multiple-point games (17), penalty minutes (40) and games (71). Entering his fourth professional season and third year with Mississippi, Anthony Battaglia played last year alongside his older brother Bates Battaglia with the Sea Wolves accumulating a six-game point streak (4g-5a) from February 22 to March 4 and scoring in four consecutive games (4g) from February 22-27.

I had my best professional season last year and I look forward to topping my totals this season, said Battaglia. I like playing for the Sea Wolves coaching staff (head coach Bob Woods and associate coach Steffon Walby) and hopefully we can do better as a team in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Ive been working out this summer and Im always up for the challenge.

Were excited to be able to bring back our top goal scorer from last season, said Woods. Anthony was our most consistent goal scorer from last year and were looking for more of the same from him this season. This is a nice start to the offseason Sea Wolves player signings.

The Sea Wolves open their 10th Anniversary Season on October 22 at Pensacola, before dropping the puck on their home opener on October 28 versus Texas at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
