ECHL Welcomes Utah Grizzlies For 2005-06 |
PRINCETON, N.J. The ECHL announced on Tuesday that the ECHL Board of Governors has unanimously approved the addition of the Utah Grizzlies to begin play in October at The E Center, a state-of-the-art facility in West Valley City, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City.
We are excited to welcome the Utah Grizzlies as the newest member of the ECHL, said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. The Grizzlies history combined with a first-class facility like The E Center and a strong traditional hockey market like Salt Lake City makes them a tremendous addition to the West in particular and our league in general.
The newest member will be owned and operated by Grizzlier Hockey Corporation Inc. The owner of the team is David Elmore, who has operated the team for the past 10 seasons, first in the International Hockey League and most recently in the American Hockey League.
The E Center gained international acclaim and exposure as the host venue for the ice hockey championships at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Opened in September 1997, the E Center has a hockey capacity of 10,207 and combines the modern amenities of a large arena with the service and intimacy of a small theater. |
