SEA WOLVES RING IN 2008 WITH 5-2 WIN OVER EVERBLADES

BILOXI, MS – Ryan Munce made 45 saves and Gio Flamminio had three assists as the Mississippi Sea Wolves defeated the Florida Everblades 5-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Tuesday.

The Sea Wolves opened the scoring just 1:58 into the first period when Lance Monych tipped Gio Flamminio’s point shot past Florida goaltender Justin Peters. Ryan Menei extended Mississippi’s lead to two when Pat Oliveto sprung him on a breakaway and he beat Peters along the ice at 4:40. Marek Kvapil gave the Sea Wolves a 3-0 lead at 19:03 of the first period when the banged the rebound of Flamminio’s shot past Peters with the Sea Wolves on the power play.

Florida got on the board at 14:05 of the second period when Mike McLean found the back of the net from Kirk MacDonald and Dan Collins. The Everblades cut the Sea Wolves’ lead to one when Derek Damon fired a shot through traffic and past Munce for a power-play goal at 17:16.

Mark Rooneem’s seventh goal of the season gave Mississippi a 4-2 lead when he cut around Damon at the blue line and beat Peters along the ice at 8:13 of the third period. The Sea Wolves iced the victory when Jason Tejchma drove the net and shoveled Mark Hurtubise’s centering feed past Peters for a power-play goal at 17:44 of the third stanza.

Ryan Munce made 45 saves to earn the win, and the Sea Wolves were 2-for-10 on the power play.
