BILOXI, MS – Stan Lascek scored two goals and added two assists and Morgan Cey made 28 saves as the Mississippi Sea Wolves became the first team to pin two regulation-time losses on the Texas Wildcatters in the 2007-08 season.
Texas out-shot Mississippi 11-5 through a scoreless first period. The Sea Wolves got out to a 1-0 lead when Stan Lascek found a loose puck at the right post and tapped it past Texas goalie Kris Tebbs at 13:32 of the second period. Three minutes and seven seconds later, Lascek took a feed from Gio Flamminio and fired from the left point for his second of the evening, a power-play goal at 16:39. A tic-tac-toe passing play on the man-advantage led to Jason Tejchma’s 20th goal of the season at 17:29.
Mississippi kept the momentum alive coming out of the locker room, with Torry Gajda backhanding the puck over a diving Tebbs at 1:51 for a 4-0 lead. The goal chased Tebbs from the Wildcatters’ net in favor of Jeff Pietrasiak. At 4:12 of the third period with Texas on the power play, Dwight Schultz fired a blast from the point that eluded Morgan Cey to get Texas on the board.
Mark Hurtubise fired a wrist shot from the low slot for his 12th goal of the season at 7:22. Newly-signed Brandon Scero scored his first professional goal when Hurtubise found him open on the left post and he tapped the puck past a fooled Pietrasiak at 18:43.
The Sea Wolves were 4-for-7 on the power play, and Morgan Cey made 28 saves to earn the win.
